General conditions

Upon signing the inscription form or payment of the reservation fee, the student accepts the terms and conditions underwritten in this document.

The course fee includes: course book, some cultural activities, Wi-Fi access at the school, attendance and level certificate, a student assistance service, tutorial sessions with teachers and airport transfer.

The course does not include: travel health insurance, some activities, accomodation, enrolment fee (except if you live in La Palma).

To book your course: send us the contact form that you can find on our website and specify your preferences.

Payment. Upon receiving your contact form we will email you to confirm your reservation with the details of the course and accommodation (if requested). The minimum stay at Lava Language Centre is two weeks.

You will be requested to pay a deposit of 100€, which will be deducted from the final invoice (except for long-term courses). After payment of the deposit (100€) has been received, you will be formally registered at the school. The rest of the amount will be transferred to our bank account at least 30 days prior to the beginning of your course. Lava Language Centre will cancel your course in case the payments are not made within the allotted time frame. Upon confirmation of your registration you will receive more information about your programme and your accommodation option.

Please send us a copy of the bank receipt by email (info@lavalanguagecentre.com) specifying name and course requested.

 

Courses.

LAVA LANGUAGE CENTRE will place the student in a suitable group for his/her level.  Any level or schedule changes requested by the student must be approved by the Head of Studies and is subject to availability. The student will be given a schedule in the week prior to the beginning of his/her course. Nevertheless we reserve the right to change the latter according to our organizational needs.


Violence or disrespect to other students or Lava Language Centre employees is neither allowed nor tolerated in any case and may result in the student being expelled from the school.

Cancellation, postponement or interruption of courses: if cancellations are made by the student 2 weeks or more prior to the course start date, Lava Language Centre will refund the full cost of the program (if full payment was made in advance), with the exception of the 100€ course deposit. No refund will be made for cancellations within 15 days of the course starting date. Cancellations will only be accepted in writing.

Number of students per class: groups will have a minimum of 5 students and a maximum of 10 students. Lava Language Centre reserves the right to cancel courses when the minimum requirement is not met. Students in those cases will be offered a place in a similar course.

Airport pick-up service: flight information (departure city, date and flight number) must be confirmed in writing at least one week prior to arrival. Lava Language Centre will accept no responsibility if changes are not notified in advance. We will provide the student a telephone contact number he/she may use to report if any changes occur out of the office hours.

Insurance.

All students taking courses have insurance coverage. Lava Language Centre accepts no responsibility for accidents that occur outside the school, or for the loss or theft of personal belongings on our premises. We therefore recommend you take out an insurance policy in your country of origin.

Holidays.

Classes that fall on a national or local holiday cannot be recovered at a later date and no refund will be given. One-to-one lessons will be recovered. Visas: EU citizens do not need a visa to attend courses. Non-EU citizens (from countries that are not a Member State of the European Union) should contact the relevant Spanish Embassy or Consulate for information on the requirements for studying in Spain.

If the student needs a letter of confirmation from the school to apply for a visa, the programme and accommodation fees must be paid in full before the requested documentation will be sent. Payment in this case will only be accepted by bank transfer. When Lava Language Centre receives it, the letter of confirmation will be sent to the address provided by the student.


If the student is unable to attend a course because his/her visa was refused, he/she must submit the official document of refusal (with the date, signature and stamp) issued by the relevant Spanish Embassy or Consulate, clearly indicating the student’s name, passport number and visa application.

For a refund of the advance payment, Lava Language Centre must be notified of the cancellation in writing (attaching the document of refusal) at least 15 days prior to the course’s starting date.  The same conditions as in point 6 are applicable to refusal of entry.

Complaint forms are available to the students or their legal representatives in accordance with the official model.


In case of any dispute arising from the interpretation or performance of this agreement, Lava Language Centre is expressly subject to the arbitral consumption system, through the Consumer Arbitration Board that corresponds.

Data protection.

In accordance with the Organic Law 15/1999 of December 13 on personal data protection, we inform the student that upon signing this document, the student consents that data presented upon inscription will be included in a file called Lava Language Centre. The aim is to use this file to manage the student’s academic, economic and administrative development in Lava Language Centre.


Lava Language Centre may take pictures or record video of the student while at the courses and/or activities organised by the Lava Language Centre for:

  • Advertising purposes of the Lava Language Centre (flyers, website (lavalanguagecentre.com), brochure, online publications, online media, social media, catalogues, paper publications, etc.).
  • Photographs or video collections of Lava Language Centre that may be used for graduation photographs, photo collages or any other purpose related to the stay of the student in La Palma and in Lava Language Centre


Lava Language Centre guarantees the adequate processing and editing of the student’s ’images. Likewise, it guarantees the publication of any photo, picture or video will be done with all the due respect to the individual in accordance with the Organic Law 1 / 1982 of May 5, Protection of Civil Right to Honour, as well as to personal and family privacy and image Any caption or film that may go against the student’s basics rights will be eliminated from our files and will not be published under any circumstances. Images and videos will not have other uses than those hereby expressed, nor will they be assigned to third parties, except by those expressed in this authorization.

Personal data transfer or communication. Payment of school fees through financial or banking bodies necessarily includes the transfer of personal data to these third parties. However, these data will be under the protection of the ministries, public bodies and organisms as well as any other data these may demand from Lava Language Centre. In any case, the assignments and transfer of information will be done in full obedience of the law and will not be subject to use for any other purpose other than those for which they have been collected.

The exercise of rights.

Regarding personal data provided, the student has the right to access, rectify and cancel this information by sending a written petition addressed to Lava Language Centre, Planta Baja del módulo 3, Edificio Quinta Verde, Avenida El Puente, 39, 38700, Santa Cruz de La Palma, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, or via e-mail to the following address: direccion@lavalanguagecentre.com. Likewise, the student can state at any moment his/her opposition to Lava Language Centre or its close associates to sending any commercial communications.

Duration and scope of these general conditions.

These General Conditions are to be applied and are annexed to the specific conditions established in the specific programme of the academic course contracted by the Student. Both documents are considered the contract of this non-academic education that rules the relationship between the school and the student. When the General Conditions of his/her contract are modified, these will be updated through different specific documents of each course, being the contract date, the one set out in its Specific Conditions.
